Seminar: "Mobiles and Driving"

Following the presentations the debate was opened up to the floor and during the session David Jamieson MP said that there had been a huge response to the consultation. The Department has received over 1000 responses. He also indicated that legislation could be introduced before the summer if it were decided to press ahead with a ban on hands-held phones. He hinted that a ban on hand-held phones was very likely, and he also said that there is a relatively compelling case for banning the use of hands-free phones but that law enforcement issues would need to be examined before moving ahead. The results of the consultation will be announced as soon as possible.
